A Boy Like Me in a World Like This

A boy like me in a world like this -
A big world with too many lips dancing,
And sweating out words that eventually
hit brick walls of ears that aren't even listening.

A boy like me in a world like this -
Where wisdom is often ignored
because she doesn't have a loud voice,
And normalcy is exalted for his resounding baritone.

A boy like me in a world like this -
Where the lover is bruised for the love he gives,
And an empath is cut deep
because he feels a little more.

A boy like me in a world like this -
Where sincerity is exiled as weakness
And secrecy is hailed for its strength.

Should I say less to a world
that isn't patient enough to listen?
Or shout a little more,
for maybe I speak too lowly.

Should I love a little less
for a world that gives more attention to hate?
Or keep to myself
and be a secret affectionate.

What should a boy like me
do in a world like this?

- A boy like me in a world like this,
