PHARISEE

I am a Pharisee.

I was there
When your eyes
Were Saving lives
From the terror of mundanity.
I have seen you preach
To low multitudes,
Not with spoken words,
But your audible sublimeness.

I was there
When you opened veiled eyes
To see the light of your beauty.
I have seen hearts,
Crippled to love,
Leap for joy
At the feel of your radiance.

I have seen my unbelief
Being overwhelmed by the conviction
Of your graciousness.

I am a Pharisee
I come not to test
But to surrender my Will
To the impulse of your graciousness
I come not to throw stones
But to lay down
My ancient foolery at your golden feet.

Yes,
I was a Pharisee.
Now a sworn martyr
For the cause of your unmatched elegance.
